Leipzig

Bring these (3 required)

• Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (landlord confirmation)Required

  Your landlord must provide it within 14 days of your move-in. Template: search "Wohnungsgeberbestätigung PDF Muster".

• Completed AnmeldeformularRequired

  Download from your city's Bürgeramt website. Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg have English versions.

• Rental contract (Mietvertrag) — sometimes requestedOptional

  Not mandatory by law — the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung is the legal proof. Bring it anyway in case the clerk asks.

The path

   Book an appointment at the Leipzig Bürgeramt (link below). Slots often book 2-4 weeks out — book the day you have a move-in date.

2. 2

   Collect every document on the checklist. Physical copies — the Bürgeramt does not accept phones or PDFs.

3. 3

   Attend your appointment. Bring a pen. The clerk fills out the rest in ~15 minutes, then hands you the Anmeldebestätigung — keep this forever, you will need it for banking, phone contracts, and the Aufenthaltstitel.

Mistakes we see most often

• ·Booking the appointment before you have a move-in date — you will reschedule, losing weeks.
• ·Assuming the landlord will send the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung "later" — chase them on day 1, because you have 14 days, they have 14 days, and nobody wants to be on day 13.
• ·Showing up with a digital-only copy of the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung — every Bürgeramt requires a signed physical document.
• ·Forgetting that children need their own registration even if the parents register together.
• ·Missing the 14-day window and not realizing it — the fine is small but the hassle is large, and some Ausländerbehörden check the Anmeldung date against the entry stamp.
